Mamelodi Sundowns captain Hlompho Kekana is in the running to win the coveted FIFA Puskas Award.
Kekana’s sensational goal against Cape Town City last season caught the eyes of the football federation and he was nominated along with ten other beautiful strikes.
This is not the first time that Kekana has been nominated for the award, he was in the running in 2016 but it was won by Malaysian striker Mohd Faiz Subri that year.
Kekana is up against the likes of Luis Suarez and Son Heung-Min to take the precious award home. This time around, Kekana will be hoping to be in the final three selected to ultimately win the award.
Voting is already open and will close on 9 December 2020. The final three will be selected two days after voting closes. Kekana’s goal was also voted the goal of the season in the 19/20 PSL season.
Kekana dedicated his nomination to the late Anele Ngcongca:
“As a club we are still mourning the loss of our brother. In training we feel it. Amidst the sadness, it is difficult to process this and I have to dedicate this nomination to my brother #16 Anele Ngcongca,” he wrote on Twitter.
